*FLIGHTS*
Once you get to San Jose (capitol of Costa Rica) you basically have three options to get to Puerto Jimenez: plane, rental car or bus. I understand it's quite the drive, around 350 kilometers through the mountains and the last hundred or so, which I have driven before, is down a dirt road. Two different airline fly to Puerto Jimenez daily. These flights book-up quick so reserve them asap.
Sansa - www.flysansa.com -
Sansa flies twice daily to Puerto Jimenez; $142 RT
Nature Air - www.natureair.com -
Nature Air flies four times a day to Puerto Jimenez $168 RT
A gentlemen by the name of Alvaro runs the Alfa Romeo Aero Taxi out of the Puerto Jimenez airport. He would be the contact for a charter flight in which, when divided amongst four to six people, is often competitive with the commercial airlines. His local number in Puerto Jimenez is 735-5112. The country code is 506.
A bus ticket from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez is around $10. It's a 10-hour drive and I think the bus leaves San Jose around 6 or 7 in the morning. Check these sites for specifics:
www.costaricabybus.com or www.costaricabustickets.com
Car rental is around $400 to $600 per week. You can get to Puerto Jimenez without 4WD but i would not recommend it! 4x4 Car Rental is a cool company based in Costa Rica that rents 4X4 vehicles. Click here or on the banner above to visit their website.
This is a GREAT Costa Rica informational website: http://therealcostarica.com/

*CAMPING*
There is a killer campground right by Pt. Jimenez inside the Herrera Botanical Garden and Reforestation Project. It it is in the center of 270 acres that surrounds Pt. Jimenez. We have 5 K in garden Trails, and another 12 K in Forested trails (we have over 170 acres of forest). Our farm is home to 3 types of monkeys, 3 types of cats, ant eaters, sloth, raccoons, tayras, grisons, iguanas, pizotes, and so much more. The bird watching is also spectacular.
Camping is $4-person, $5-person for a covered site, we have 2 tree platforms to camp on for $7-person.
The campgrounds have flush toilets, city water (drinkable), a large covered Kithcen area (access to stoves and dishes if you clean up after yourself, if not the privledge is revoked), safe storage (we have a general bodega to store valuables, or for an extra $1-day you can have your own locked storage unit inside the bodega. The bodega is a cement building with a metal door, very safe), a screened in room to hang out on, a large covered wooden deck to hang out on, a BBQ to use, and much more. You also have access to all the trails when you stay there. We rent bikes and kayaks for cheap, besides offering the cheapest tours in town (only to our campers).
People can contact us at osatomcr@yahoo.com.
Our web page is not up yet. I have lived on the Osa for over 12 years, and own the kayaking/adventure company -- Escondido Trex. If people want an idea of tours possible they can check out www.escondidotrex.com.
